Kiwifruit is a fruit from the family of berries. Its origin was in China, and in the early days it was called the Chinese Gooseberry. It was perfected as a cuisine and everyday fruit when it came to New Zealand. It has since been named Kiwifruit due to its resemblance in colour and texture to the New Zealand’s Kiwi bird.
Q. 2 What are the health benefits of Kiwifruit?
Over 400 international studies have shown that Kiwifruit is one of the most nutrient-packed of all fruits. A study done by Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA in 1997 showed that Kiwifruit is the most nutrient rich of the 27 commonly consumed fruits. For instance, Kiwifruit has twice the Vitamin C of an orange, more Potassium than a banana, etc. Besides vitamins and minerals, the Kiwifruit also contains pectin (a soluble fibre) and other important nutrients to aid intestinal care and natural bowel movement. Kiwifruit is also a rich source of potassium.
Q. 3 What are the health benefits of Nekta?
Is it a Health Drink? Since NEKTA uses 100% New Zealand whole Kiwifruit (without the skin and seeds) most of the benefits in the Kiwifruit are captured in the beverage. We however position it as an everyday, any time beverage and price it reasonably. It can’t get better than this.
Q. 4 Are the Kiwifruit nutrients lost while processing into a beverage?
Processing of all fruits into juice beverages results in some nutrient losses. With the ‘state of the art’ technology which NEKTA uses, most nutrients are captured in the beverage with minimum losses during processing. Further the product is fortified with Vitamin C and a 250 ml serving provides 250% (2 ½ times) of the New Zealand recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C.
Q. 5 Does NEKTA contain sugar?
Kiwifruit is a pulpy fruit and sour in taste. NETKA uses the whole Kiwifruit (without the skin and seeds) to produce a refreshing beverage, for which the pulp is diluted to a drinkable consistency. To make it palatable, some sugar has to be added to the product. Despite the addition of sugar, the total sugar and calories in NEKTA are less than most juices like apple and commonly marketed beverages. We only use Natural cane sugar
Like all fruits, fresh Kiwifruit deteriorates very rapidly. For NEKTA to reach you, it is pasteurised and aseptically packed to achieve shelf life of 12 months WITHOUT PRESERVATIVES. The nutrients are preserved in it as they were when packed, capturing the freshness of the product.
NEKTA is perhaps the only Ready to drink beverage that is made from whole 100% New Zealand Kiwifruit (without its seeds and skin). Kiwifruit is a pulpy fruit and it is diluted it to a drinkable consistency. Though not a 100% juice beverage, it is the closest one can get to the real Kiwifruit in a beverage form. The only fruit in it is the New Zealand Kiwifruit.
Q. 8 Is taking NETKA the same as taking the actual Kiwifruit?
NEKTA retains much of the goodness of the actual Kiwifruit. So, many of the benefits of the Kiwifruit can be found in NEKTA. For instance, like Kiwifruit itself, NEKTA contains natural pectin and enzymes that help the body’s digestive system and aids natural bowel movement. Taking NEKTA is also much more convenient than taking the Kiwifruit itself and, unlike the fresh Kiwifruit, which is seasonally available; NEKTA is available all year round. Perhaps one of the most important advantages of NEKTA is that it offers a consistent quality and taste of Kiwifruit. Fresh fruit of any kind tends to vary in terms of quality and taste consistency due to seasonal conditions.
Q. 9 Is NEKTA a natural product?
Nekta uses 100% Natural New Zealand Kiwifruit and the product contains NO PRESERVATIVES.
Q. 10 Does it contain colour/ additives?
The Kiwifruit doesn’t provide a consistent rich green colour. In order to standardise the colour for consistency and appeal, some minimal colour is added to it. These are permitted colours approved by International Codex, US FDA, and New Zealand/ Australian Government agencies.
Q. 11 How many Kiwifruits are there in each serving of NEKTA?
As the size of the fruit may vary, on an approximate basis, there would be the equivalent of one and a half medium sized ripe Kiwifruit in each 250 ml serving of NEKTA.
Q. 12 Has NEKTA got preservatives?
How can the product be kept without refrigeration for 12 months? NEKTA is free from preservatives. The product has a 12 months shelf life, which is a result of pasteurisation. With pasteurisation the bacteria and mould responsible for product spoilage are destroyed and it is immediately packed. Once opened, the product is exposed to air and will behave as a fresh product. It must therefore be stored under refrigeration at 4°C and recommended to be consumed within 7 days for best results. This is in line with ideal requirements for any pasteurised juice which is without preservatives.
Q. 13 Once open, how long can I keep the product before consuming it?
Though NEKTA Liquid Kiwifruit is pasteurised with a shelf life of 12 months, once opened the product is exposed to air and deteriorates like a fresh product. Therefore, it must be stored under refrigeration at 4°C and recommended to be consumed within 7-10 days, for best results. These are ideal requirements for any pasteurised juice, which is without preservatives.
Q. 14 If NEKTA is not 100% juice, why is it so much more expensive than pure juices?
Kiwifruit is a very difficult fruit to process. NEKTA processes the raw Kiwifruit into its patented Kiwifruit product NEKTALITE which is the basis of the product before you.
