Here at Nekta, we like to hear back from customers who drink our products.

This one from Ron Renz is a good example of letters we receive.

I am 68 years of age and have prostate cancer.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer 10 years ago ( aged 58 ) when I went to my doctor for a “ complete overhaul “.
Two alternatives were offered. One was to have radiation ( but if that proved un successful I would not be able to have a prostatectomy ) or to have a prostatectomy, and I could have radiation later if required. I chose to have a prostatectomy.
As a result of the prostatectomy my PSA level dropped from 4.8 to .1. I recall  speaking to the Urologist and saying, “ Well, You will be happy with that ? “ and his reply “ No, I am not “. The only acceptable reading was to have a zero PSA reading.
For the next year or so, I lived a normal life, and in fact, was mowing my lawns 3 days after the prostatectomy. However, once my PSA level reached .6 I was placed in the care of an Oncologist, had radiation treatment and subsequently hormone treatment. I was placed on a variety of drugs and some of those were not very pleasant. Nevertheless, I still managed to function as a male would want to and to live pretty much a normal life.
At the end of 2006, things went haywire, my PSA level rose rapidly in a period of about 3 months to over 25, and I was placed on a variety of drugs. Eventually one of them seemed to have an effect and my PSA level has now dropped to 1.9. But unfortunately while the PSA was high the cancer spread to my bones. At the beginning of 2007 I was given a minimum and maximum period in which I could expect to live. The minimum period has passe3d and the maximum period has yet to be reached. Hopefully it will be exceeded. The lower the PSA level the slower the advancement of the bone cancer.
For me, once I learned that I was effectively “terminally ill “ the objective was to enjoy what you have ( ie family – I am fortunate that I have had an extremely exciting and varied life during which time my wife and I have been able to raise  a family of 4, and educate them well. Of course, there are now a number of grandchildren ),  but also set goals that I would want to achieve. For instance I wanted to do the Otago rail Trail Bike Ride and I set that as a goal, and achieved it in March 2008, a great experience. I have set another goal in that I am going to tour the South Island in 2009 year in our caravan. Another objective is to travel from Melbourne to Perth. The goals that I have set myself are short, medium and longer term. They are something to look forward to and plan for.

About a year ago, a friend of mine showed me an article which appeared in the Readers Digest suggesting that Pomegranate Juice may be effective in restricting the increase of PSA levels in Prostate Cancer.. I decided to try that and take it daily.

Whether or not that has helped in the containment of my PSA I am unable to say, but since I have been taking Pomegranate my Oncologist has been surprised that my PSA levels have not risen to the degree that he expected. I will continue to take it as it is pleasant to take and fairly inexpensive. I have been using Ersu Pomegranate Juice.

Maori have a saying “ Kia Kaha “ … Never Give In,. and that is the attitude that I take. Act as normal as possible and enjoy living, fishing, tramping, whatever. I think the essential thing is to have regular medical checkups to ensure your body is functioning as best it can
